Insomnia cracks open the nightly vista

Of up and down through hospital corridor,

The mind in wintry chill pokes and douses again

 The smouldering memories of

 Medical failure and complications,

Only to tend the hope to return from hospital bed

The close one with healthy strides back

To warm and cosy home lying deserted now,

But to be scoffed at with the piercing shriek

 At divine decree,

And rattling away of still body on cold stretcher,

Breaking the huddled slumbers on strewn mats

On hospital’s freezing corridor.
