Whether rich or poor,
Emaciated or healthy,
Dark or fair,
Plump or slim,
Lettered or unlettered,
Naïve or intelligent,
Working or homemakers,
They are above classifications,
Because they are mothers,
They all bear alike,
The heaviness for nine months,
The nausea and the cramps, they bear
To bring forth new lives to the light,
They drive away their slumber
To keep their babies warm in their nappies,
They postpone their meals
To feed their children on time,
They chisel away their dreams to the bins
To keep their boards of life uncluttered
To stack on them their children’s wishes,
They are the paragons of unconditional love,
Whether they are the mothers to sons or to daughters.
